SHARING YOUR SLIDESHOW ON THE WEB

So you've finished your powerpoint slideshow. Now what? How do you share it? Well they are several
ways (and you may want to use several of those, conceivably).

1) Upload it as powerpoint on a file sharing site. There's plenty of free ones out there (I use
megaupload). They give you the link to a web address, and you post that on your favorite forum.
Pros:
- You don't need to convert to another format.
- If someone wants to see how you did certain things, they can see it right there in the file, when it is
not playing.
Cons:
- People have to download it if they want to watch it. And who's to say they've got your version of
powerpoint anyway.

2) Convert it to flash and upload it to your blog, if you have one. There's a free and truly great and
easy software that converts powerpoint to flash:
ispringfree. For the couple of tricks of the trade I've
bumped into regarding doing this with eblogger, see
here.

3) Upload it to YouTube, where many people will see it !!! Now if you know of a free/cheap software
that can convert a powerpoint presentation to an acceptable format in HD, let me know! Otherwise
here's the alternative I've come up with.

ON YOUTUBE:

There must be 50 ways to do this and 500 not to. I've picked two: easy and cheap, but somewhat lower
resolution, and a second way that's free, and will do the job in High Definition. You've got text in
there, and that makes the issue of resolution all the more important. The difference is mostly
noticeable in full screen mode, but judge for yourselves:
-
cheap and easy
-
free and HD

- the easiest and cheap way:

There is a site called authorstream on which you can upload your presentation, convert it to video,
and put it on you tube. It is a straightforward process, but there are two small drawbacks compared to
the earlier method:
- the picture quality is lower (still good though, but not as good)
- if your slideshow is longer than
5 minutes, which is likely, then it will cost you 2 dollars per
slideshow
(shorter than that it is free).
And yes it uploads whatever sound you have put in there too. You can send the video directly from
authorstream to youtube, or download it first after authorstream has converted it.

- the HD and free way:

If you don't want/need any sound, or you can live with the options provided by YouTube (see the
swap audio tab):

- Download Autoscreen Recorder Free, and screen record your slide show as it plays. And that's it,
you can just upload it to Youtube, it uploads automatically as HD, great quality.

If you want sound:

- Download and install the (free and wonderful) DVDvideoSoft Free Studio.

- In the second, green window it has a screen recorder (even better quality than autoscreen recorder
I feel, but YouTube won't upload straight the resulting file; pity). Open it and go to options (the funny
icon on the RHS), and under "Media Formats" select "Bytescout Lossless Video codec".

Then it depends:

- If you have a recent version of Windows Movie Maker, it may already have HD. Open the file you
created in it, and do
this.

- If you have an earlier version of Windows Movie Maker, but at least 2.0, download
this plugin, and
follow these instructions.

- If you have just plain old Windows Movie Maker (like I did :-(   ) and you're running windows XP then
download Windows Movie Maker 2.0. After much, much, much searching I found it
there.
(no I could not find a 2.6 version that runs on XP… is it a myth?). And now you can download
this
plugin and follow these instructions.

What that does is allow you to add a sound file of your choice in Windows Movie Maker and save the
file in HD, so you can then upload to Youtube in HD.
